This week at work I had an experience that had the potential to dampen my faith. In the moment I was fine, but then the weight of the words the person spoke to me began to try to sink in. If it sunk in completely it could have changed my perspective about myself. It could have impacted my confidence in my ability to do my job. Ultimately leading me to settle for good enough, rather than working for better in my career. If the words sunk in, then I would have believed I couldn’t do well at my job.
“In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Ephesians 6:16 NASB
How many times have you experienced something like this? It may not have been at work, but maybe it was at a family reunion. Maybe it was in your own mind. Words that came your way with the right force and fire that had the potential to send you back to an old place you were already delivered from. Words that reminded you of old places of fear. Words that reminded you of old bitterness in your heart. Words that reminded you of low self-esteem.
The situation I experienced taught me the importance of faith and the word of God. Ephesians 6:16, tells us to take up our shield of faith to extinguish the darts from the evil one. Sometimes these darts are thrown our way in order to attempt to extinguish our faith. The enemy is not so much after our job as he is after our faith. If we let our faith down we let him have access to whole lot more down than a job. Our faith in God is what protects us from the evil one.
I’m encouraging you today to continue to uphold the stature of your faith. Keep extinguishing all those fiery darts from the evil one by magnifying the word of God over any other words. Exalt the Lord in your life, and you will see the victory time and time again because God is faithful to those who trust in Him!
